Pick up your bow and arrow. Grab an axe for throwing. Target sports are perfect for Northumberland’s Kielder Forest.
Offering archery, axe throwing, laser clay pigeon shooting and disc golf, it’s as much about focus, fun and a little friendly competition as it is about adrenaline. These are activities you can ease into, argue about who’s winning and quietly discover you’re rather good at.
They’re also fully accessible to everyone. With the widest variety of adaptive outdoor activity equipment in the North of England and a specially trained team on hand throughout, there’s no reason anyone in your group needs to sit one out. Train your eye on the target, take your time, and see what happens.
£20 per person | 30 arrows | Tuesday, 12pm | Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 12pm | Sunday, 4.30pm
One of the oldest skills in the book and still one of the most satisfying things to get right.
Assemble under the covered shelter and your instructor will walk you through technique and safety measures. We’ll set you up with any kit you need to make it fully accessible to all. Then it’s time to let your first arrow fly. From there, it’s down to focus, patience and giving it a go.
Archery is a genuinely levelling activity. Technique matters far more than strength, which means it’s one where anyone in the group can come out on top.
£20 per person | 30 axes | Tuesday, 9.30am | Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 10.45am & 3.15pm | Sunday, 3.15pm
Considerably more satisfying than it has any right to be.
Under the guidance of your instructor, you’ll learn the technique behind a well-thrown axe. Then spend a very enjoyable session trying to stick 30 of them in the target. It’s a surprisingly meditative activity when you get into the rhythm of it. And an extremely loud one when someone in your group finally nails it!
£20 per person | 30 shots | Tuesday, 10.45am | Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 9.30am and 2pm | Sunday 2pm
All the technique and satisfaction of clay pigeon shooting, without the recoil. Laser clay pigeon shooting uses replica shotguns and electronic targets to create an experience that’s genuinely close to the real thing. And with our leading range of adaptive outdoor activities equipment, it’s completely accessible to participants of all abilities.
This is a great group activity where you can enjoy a little friendly competition, while beginners and experienced shots end up surprisingly level.
£7.50 per person | 7 days a week, daylight hours
Part golf, part frisbee, entirely enjoyable. Our 9-hole, 2km disc golf course takes you across our forest site, throwing a disc towards a series of basket targets. The fewer throws it takes you to get there, the better.
It’s a relaxed, sociable way to spend time outdoors at your own pace. One that works brilliantly for groups of mixed ages and abilities.
Please note: the disc golf course is currently on a rough grassy area, which often makes it too uneven for people with limited mobility. We’re working on improving this over time and thank you for your patience.
Our target sports programme has been built around one principle: everyone takes part. We carry one of the widest varieties of adaptive outdoor activity equipment in the UK, and our staff are specially trained and highly experienced in supporting people of all abilities.
Whatever adaptations are needed to make an activity work for someone in your group, we’ll have thought of it — and we’ll have the kit to match.
Target sports are, by nature, activities where ability and access needs level the playing field. Focus, technique and a little competitive spirit are what count. The rest we can help with.
Calendar updates automatically as new activities are added.
