After taking care of the people you love, you may want to remember a place or a cause which has meant something to you.
A gift to Calvert Kielder in your Will is one of the most meaningful ways to do that. It costs nothing today. And it could mean that future generations of children and adults with disabilities get to experience what happens when a place is genuinely, completely, built for them.
Not a ramp bolted on. Not an adapted room at the end of a corridor. A place where everything, from the bedrooms to the climbing wall, is designed to be inclusive of everyone from the start. A place where 7,000 disabled children, adults, families and carers arrive every year and discover what they’re capable of.
Your gift helps keep that place going.
For over 40 years, Calvert Kielder has been doing something that very few places in UK do: making outdoor adventure genuinely available to people with disabilities. Not as an after-thought or courtesy. As the whole point.
Set within Kielder Water & Forest Park — England’s largest working forest — our fully accessible lodges, specialist respite care breaks and outdoor activities programme are designed from the ground up with inclusion at the centre. Every activity. Every room. Every piece of equipment.
A gift in your Will could help us:
Leaving a gift in your Will won’t affect your finances during your lifetime. It only takes effect after you’ve taken care of the people who matter most to you.
Many people choose to leave a percentage of their estate. Others prefer a fixed sum, or a specific item. Whatever you decide, even a small gift makes a lasting difference, leaving a legacy which continues long after you.
A residuary gift — a percentage of your estate after gifts to family, friends and expenses have been settled. Often the most valuable type of legacy because it keeps pace with inflation over time.
A pecuniary gift — a fixed sum of money.
Your solicitor will be able to advise on which option best reflects your wishes and circumstances.
You don’t need to start again. Your solicitor can prepare something called a ‘codicil’, which is a straightforward legal document that adds a gift to Calvert Kielder to your existing Will, without changing anything else.
As a registered charity, gifts left to Calvert Kielder are generally exempt from Inheritance Tax. In some circumstances, a charitable gift in your Will may also reduce the amount of Inheritance Tax payable on your estate.
We’d recommend speaking with your solicitor or a professional adviser for guidance based on your individual situation.
If you’ve already included Calvert Kielder in your Will, we’d love to hear from you to have the opportunity to thank you personally, sharing the impact your future gift will make possible.
There’s no obligation at all. If you’d prefer to keep your decision private, we completely understand and respect that.
If you’re thinking about leaving a gift in your Will, or would simply like an informal, confidential conversation about what’s involved, please get in touch. There’s no pressure and no agenda. It’s just a chance to talk through what feels right for you.
