The Kielder ZipCoaster is Europe’s first AvatarOne™ ZipCoaster and the only fully wheelchair accessible one of its kind on the planet. Set within Calvert Kielder’s 40-acre woodland site in Northumberland, it takes everything you love about a zip wire and a rollercoaster and throws them together into 200 metres of freefall drops, 270-degree bends, and tree-top views across Kielder Water & Forest Park.

Your ZipCoaster experience begins with harnessing up and a full safety briefing from your instructor. Then it’s up to the 10-metre starting tower. This can be via stairs or the purpose-built lift, which has a 250kg capacity and is there to make sure the ride is as accessible as the rest of what we do. Then it begins.
Two hundred metres of adapted roller coaster rail through the trees. Freefall drops of up to 3 metres. Bends of up to 270 degrees. Speeds of up to 20mph. The sensation is part zip wire — that feeling of flying, suspended in the air with the forest below you — and part rollercoaster, with the dips and twists and the involuntary scream you make on the way down!
Our high ropes activities have been designed from the outset with accessibility in mind. We carry the widest variety of outdoor activity accessibility equipment in the North of England, and our experienced instructors carry additional specialist disability training.
The goal is simple: to give every guest an unmatched sense of freedom and agency, in an environment that’s genuinely safe and supported.
One thing to note: the high ropes course does require participants to climb a small ladder and pole to complete the full course. If you’re not sure whether a particular activity is right for you or someone in your group, our team is always happy to talk it through.
