High Ropes Activities in Kielder

Up in the Treetops, Ready for Everyone
Calvert Kielder

High Ropes

Take on the 10m climb and look out through the forest to Northumberland’s Kielder Water in the distance.

Set within Calvert Kielder’s 40-acre woodland site, our high ropes activities are designed for the whole family, including guests with access needs. Edge across an aerial obstacle course. Get winched up into the sky on the giant King Swing. Clipped into your harness at the top of the zip wire tower. Our specially trained team will be with you every step of the way.

The High Ropes Course

£25 per person | Approx. 30 minutes per person (depending on group size)

Seven aerial obstacles, strung up to 10 metres high through the trees.

After a full safety briefing with your instructor, you’ll work your way through the course at your own pace, with support on hand throughout. The views from the top, out over the woodland and across Kielder Water, are worth every step of the climb. Finish the session by stepping off a mighty 10m platform into thin air and, after a moment’s simulated free-fall, getting slowed gently to the ground.

Please note: Participants need to be able to climb a ladder and stepped pole to complete the full course. Speak to our team if you have any questions about suitability.

The King Swing

£20 per person (2 swings) | 1 or 2 people at a time

Also known as a Giant Swing or 3G Swing, the King Swing is one of our most popular activities. Once you’ve tried it, it’s easy to see why.

You’ll be winched up to 9 metres in the air, side by side with someone from your group if you choose. Then you wait. There’s a moment — just before you pull the release wire — where the world is very quiet and a very long way down. And then you go.

Almost impossible to describe and completely unforgettable to do. The King Swing is suitable for any level or type of ability throughout, with specialist accessibility equipment and a trained team ensuring that as many people as possible get to experience that drop.

The Zip Wire

£20 (2 turns)

Our longest-running activity and endlessly popular for good reason.

Get harnessed up before heading up to the top of the zip wire tower. It’s 30 feet off the ground with the forest stretching out below you. Then step off the edge and descend smoothly down and over the river to the forest below. After a high-adrenaline start, it’s a gentle and smooth ride to the bottom, where you’ll come to a natural stop before being lowered to the ground. The kind of thing that puts a grin on your face that takes a while to shift.

The zip wire is suitable for wheelchair users and the activity will take place in a manual wheelchair, which can be provided if required. Speak to our team in advance and we’ll make sure everything is in place for your arrival.

Please note: The Zip Wire is different from the Kielder ZipCoaster, which you can explore here.

Accessibility

Our high ropes activities have been designed from the outset with accessibility in mind. We carry the widest variety of outdoor activity accessibility equipment in the North of England, and our experienced instructors carry additional specialist disability training.

The goal is simple: to give every guest an unmatched sense of freedom and agency, in an environment that’s genuinely safe and supported.
