How we use cookies
Cookie Policy
Last updated: October 2026
This policy explains how Calvert Kielder uses cookies on our website, calvertkielder.org.uk. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your personal information more generally.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that your browser stores on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences and understand how people use them, so we can make the site work better for you.
2. Who is responsible for cookies on this site?
Northumbria Calvert Trust, trading as Calvert Kielder, is responsible for the cookies set by this website.
Kielder Forest, Hexham, NE48 1BS
Email: enquiries@calvert-kielder.com
3. How we use cookies
We use cookies to keep the website and booking process working, to remember your cookie choices, and to understand how visitors use our site (which pages are most useful, where people spend time, and how we can improve the experience).
We do not use cookies to access your device or collect personal information beyond what you’ve chosen to share with us.
4. Cookies we use
Cookie name | Description | Type | Duration |
cookieyes-consent | Set by our cookie consent tool (CookieYes) to remember your cookie preferences. | Essential | 1 year |
GemaPark_Affinity | Set by our booking system (GemaPark) to keep your requests routed to the same server as you move between pages, so the booking process works properly. | Functional | Session |
GemaPark_AffinityCORS | Set by GemaPark to let the booking widget on our site communicate securely with GemaPark’s booking system. | Functional | Session |
ParkPublicSession | Set by GemaPark to temporarily store your booking details (such as dates and selections) while you check availability or make a reservation. | Functional | Session |
_ga | Set by Google Analytics to distinguish unique users by assigning a randomly generated number as a client identifier. | Analytics | Up to 2 years |
_ga_G2JTRY57NZ | Set by Google Analytics to keep track of your visit (session). | Analytics | Up to 2 years |
Essential and functional cookies are needed for the site or booking system to work, so they’re set without asking for your consent.
Analytics cookies are only set after you’ve clicked accept on our cookie banner. Google Analytics does not load until you do.
Site administrators only: WordPress sets login cookies (wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_*, wp-settings-* and wordpress_test_cookie) when our staff log in to manage the website. These are strictly necessary and are not set for visitors.
5. Third-party services
Some services we use on our website may set their own cookies or receive information from your browser:
- Google Analytics provides statistics on how our website is used, including which pages are visited and how long visitors spend on them. It only loads after you click accept on our cookie banner. See Google’s privacy policy.
- CookieYes is our cookie consent management tool, which stores your cookie preferences. See CookieYes’s privacy policy.
- GemaPark is our booking system. Its booking and availability widgets load from GemaPark’s own website (bookings.gemapark.co.uk) and set the session cookies listed in the table above, which are needed for the booking process to work. See GemaPark’s privacy policy.
- MailChimp powers our newsletter sign-up form. Any cookies it sets are managed through our cookie consent tool and are only set after you have given consent.
- Stripe processes online donations. When you donate, you’re taken to a payment page hosted by Stripe, which may set its own cookies. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
- Care Quality Commission (CQC) — our CQC rating badge loads from cqc.org.uk, so the CQC receives your IP address when the badge loads.
- Google Fonts — we use Google Fonts to display the typefaces on this website. The fonts load from Google’s servers, which does not set any cookies, but does pass your IP address to Google. See Google’s privacy policy.
- Social media — our website links to Facebook and Instagram using plain links. We do not use tracking pixels or embedded social media content, so those platforms only set cookies once you visit their sites, where their own privacy policies apply.
- WordPress and Elementor — our site is built on these. They do not set cookies for visitors. WordPress sets login cookies (wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_*, wp-settings-* and wordpress_test_cookie) only for site administrators when they log in. These are strictly necessary for logging in.
6. Managing your cookie preferences
On our site: you can change or withdraw your consent at any time using our cookie settings button, which appears in the bottom left of the page on loading.
In your browser: you can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Disabling some cookies may affect how parts of the site work, including the booking system. Guidance for your browser:
To opt out of interest-based advertising cookies, visit Your Online Choices [add link]. For general information about cookies, see All About Cookies [add link].
7. Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we’ll post the revised version on this page and update the date at the top.
8. Contact and complaints
If you have questions about our use of cookies, contact us at enquiries@calvert-kielder.com. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
